Liquorice root tea is a staple in the homes of anyone with acid reflux and heartburn, and widely used as effective relief from the symptoms of menopause.

100% organic liquorice root tea has been attracting the interest of researchers around the world for its ability to ease the discomfort of indigestion, stomach ache, and even stomach ulcers.

- Organic Liquorice Root (Glycyrrhiza glabra)

Allergen Free

Liquorice contains chemicals which not only settle upset stomachs and other digestive issues, but which are powerful enough to kill the bacteria that cause stomach ulcers.

The root from which the tea is made contains other specialised chemicals that mimic the effects of oestrogen in the body. What this means is you can enjoy a delicious cup of liquorice tea while topping up diminishing supplies of oestrogen. The result is milder menopause symptoms and a more comfortable life.

Liquorice has a core of sweetness 30 times sweeter than sugar, with soft undertones of mint and aniseed and a spicy oak finish.

DIRECTIONS

Liquorice tea is full of great health benefits. It’s best to drink after a meal, preferably in the morning, although it won’t interfere with sleep in the evening.

  • Make it irresistibly sweet and sugar-free with our Organic Stevia Leaf.

    WHERE DOES LIQUORICE COME FROM?

Liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) is a flowering plant from the bean family that grows to approximately 1.5 m tall.

Liquorice tea comes from the dried root of the plant, while the confectionary is made with juice from the root.

The plant itself is native to Eurasia – southern Europe and western Asia, and the tea was known to be drunk by Egyptian pharaohs.

WHAT IS LIQUORICE TEA GOOD FOR?

As you have read, liquorice tea is good for digestion issues, stomach ulcers, hot flashes and weight loss.

However, it can also ease upper respiratory problems, help prevent tooth cavities, and is also said to have powerful anti-cancer properties.

Less studied are the claims it can aid diabetes and help treat hepatitis C.

    WHY IS IT CALLED LIQUORICE?

“Liquorice” is the British / Australian spelling, while “licorice” is the US, and occasional Canadian, spelling.

But no matter how you spell it, the name originated from a Greek word meaning “sweet root”.  In fact, the roots of Spanish liquorice are so sweet, you can suck on them with any processing necessary.

HOW MUCH LIQUORICE TEA IS SAFE TO DRINK?

It’s actually possible to have too much liquorice. It can cause high blood pressure and hypokalaemia, a condition which can lead to more serious cardiac arrhythmias and myopathy.

It is therefore recommended you drink no more than a cup a day.

DOES LIQUORICE REALLY HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT?

Yes, and there are studies to prove it. Researchers found in a 2006 study that people who ingested liquorice oil were more likely to maintain body weight as well as reduce both cholesterol and amounts of body fat.

I read about liquorice tea being good for hot flashes and such. I ordered some not expecting much to happen, but I'm actually happy to say that I was wrong. My symptoms have become much milder and far easier to handle. I'll be sticking to liquorice tea at least for the moment

I used to love liquorice as a kid and I love this tea as an adult. I got it for indigestion which I used to get after eating spicy food. But now I drink a cup of this and everything is okay. I've also dropped a dress size since I've been on it
