Turmeric is a ‘modern’ superfood that has actually been used in traditional Indian medicine for millennia.
Renowned for its anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric powder is unsurpassed in its ability to ease joint pain, arthritis and rheumatism. In addition, researchers have found it can both relieve symptoms of depression and improve brain function. If ever there was a natural, organic spice that could alleviate the bulk of a person’s health concerns, it is this one.
Turmeric powder is also an essential ingredient in Indian cooking and is becoming increasingly popular here for the rich, exotic quality it contributes to food.
Turmeric powder has a touch of the exotic with warm, deep flavours that are rich and spicy with a mild undertone of pepperiness.
- Organic Turmeric Powder (Curcuma longa)
Turmeric contains powerful anti-inflammatory properties which work on bone joints to relieve pain.
There is a connection between chronic inflammation and depression. When the anti-inflammatories in turmeric reduce inflammation, they are also indirectly reducing the chances of developing depression.
First thing in the morning, or just before going to bed are the ideal times to take turmeric. Turmeric has relaxing properties that can promote a peaceful night’s sleep.
It’s best to take a break from turmeric powder every few weeks for about a week.
- ½ to 1 level teaspoon once per day is recommended.

WHAT IS TURMERIC POWDER GOOD FOR?
Turmeric is one of the more researched spices and has scientifically-proven benefits related to the prevention of heart disease, Alzheimer’s and cancer. It can help relieve symptoms of depression and, as it is a powerful anti-inflammatory, it can relieve joint pain such as that which people experience with arthritis and rheumatism.
WHAT DOES TURMERIC POWDER DO TO THE SKIN?
Turmeric doesn’t only work wonders on the inside of your body, but it can help balance uneven skin tone and bring out your natural glow.
Make a simple facial mask with a ¼ teaspoon of turmeric, a teaspoon of honey and the same of milk / yoghurt. Mix them together and apply evenly over your face. Leave on for approx. 25 minutes, wash off then pat dry.
Do this once a week and say hello to healthy, glowing skin.
HOW MUCH TURMERIC SHOULD YOU TAKE A DAY?
As the powder is more concentrated than the tea, the recommended dose is anywhere from ½ to 1 ½ teaspoons a day.
HOW DO YOU TAKE TURMERIC POWDER?
You can add it to your cooking- it’s a great addition to a curry. Add it to smoothies. Make a warm milk drink with it, or simply stir a teaspoon full into a glass of water. Add it to salads. But remember to add some black pepper too, as pepper increases the absorption of curcumin – the active ingredient in turmeric.
CAN TURMERIC BURN BELLY FAT?
Yes, it can. The curcumin in turmeric aids in digestion, boosts metabolism and promotes weight loss by supressing the growth of fat tissue.

I have taken turmeric in powder form for a couple of years. It's just the thing for my arthritis. Thanks to turmeric I can use my fingers and hands with relative ease and minimal pain
I didn't realise you could take turmeric for depression until an acquaintance at uni put me onto it. I have mild depression, but didn't want to go on pharmaceutical medication. I was taking St. John's Wort, but this is better. I find my moods are more stable and when I get down, it is milder than it used to be. Check it out
My husband and I are getting on a bit now. We take turmeric tea and use the powder in cooking and warm drinks. We find it a big help for our arthritis. We don't even mind the taste which a bit of lemon juice and honey can fix
