WHY THIS FORMULA RELIEVES INDIGESTION FAST?

AREN’T HEARTBURN AND ACID REFLUX THE SAME THING?

No, they aren’t. Acid reflux causes heartburn.

  • Acid reflux occurs when the circular muscle that joins your stomach to your oesophagus – called the lower oesophageal sphincter – becomes weak and doesn’t tighten properly, allowing acid from the stomach to escape into your oesophagus.

This can make you cough, give you a sore throat, leave a bitter taste in the back of your throat or a sour taste in your mouth, and cause burning and / or pressure that you can feel in your chest.

  • Heartburn is that burning / tight pressure in your chest caused by indigestion. And while it may feel as though you are having a heart attack, heartburn has nothing to do with your heart.    

 

WHY ARE PREGNANT WOMEN ESPECIALLY SUSCEPTIBLE TO ACID REFLUX AND HEARTBURN?

    The hormone responsible for causing this unpleasantness is progesterone. This important hormone nurtures both your womb and the baby it contains, but it is also a muscle relaxant.

    Normally, when you eat, the lower oesophageal sphincter opens to let the food into your stomach before closing up tight again. However, high levels of progesterone can cause the muscle to slacken and not close properly, allowing stomach acid to rise up into your oesophagus.

    In those who aren’t pregnant, these symptoms of indigestion can be caused by spicy foods, fried foods, alcohol, citrus fruits, tomatoes and garlic – to name but a few triggers.
